General Procedure
BOTOX® Cosmetic is delivered by an injection into the muscle of your face to be treated. Dr. Marotta uses a very fine gauge needle (small and thin) making the discomfort of this procedure minimal. Additionally, a numbing cream (local anesthetic) may be placed on your skin prior to treatment in order to reduce any discomfort. A small amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the area of each wrinkle until the entire area you are concerned with is addressed.
Recovery
Immediately following injection, an ice pack will be placed on your face to soothe and minimize the potential for bruising or swelling. Mild bruising due to the injection is the most frequent complication with BOTOX® Cosmetic, but only occurs in about 1% of patients. Dr. Marotta recommends you refrain from exercise for a few hours immediately following your treatment and avoid massaging the treated area for 48 hours.
