In a person’s early to mid-thirties, age related changes begin to appear in the forehead.  Due to the long-term effects of gravity, the eyebrows may start to droop.  This drooping may cause one to have a heavy or tired or sad appearance around the eyes.  In addition, wrinkles or deep furrows may develop running horizontally along the forehead as a result of the action of the forehead muscle (some think because your body is trying to raise droopy eyebrows).  Frown lines between the eyebrows, due to years of repetitive frowning, may cause an angry look.

There are a number of ways to turn back the clock and rejuvenate an aging forehead.  Botox® is an excellent treatment and can treat horizontal lines, frown lines, and even slightly raise the drooping eyebrow.  A more permanent solution to treat these problems is the forehead lift.  A forehead lift can restore the brows to a more youthful position, decrease excess upper eyelid skin, and soften forehead furrows or wrinkles.

There are a number of ways to perform a forehead lift.   Dr. Marotta uses the most advanced technique, the Endoscopic Browlift, which uses minimal incisions hidden in the hair and a camera.   Dr. Marotta has published scientific papers and given lectures on the Endoscopic Browlift.

Reasons for getting a BrowLift

  • A heavy, tired, or sad appearance around the eyes due to drooping eyebrows.
  • You have deep wrinkles between the eyebrows and people say you look “angry.”
  • Severe drooping of the brows and excess eyelid skin blocking your vision.

Note:  If the reason you are having your procedure is to correct blocked vision, it may be covered by your insurance.

General Procedure

At our facility, the anesthesia for a Browlift is deep sedation.  A Browlift may take several hours or longer depending on whether other cosmetic procedures are completed at the same time.  If performed by itself, the procedure takes about one hour and a half.  It is most frequently combined with an upper blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) or may be included in a mid-face or temporal lift.  Using incisions hidden in the hairline and a camera, Dr. Marotta restores the brows to their natural (higher) position and weakens the frowning muscles.

Recovery

Immediately after surgery, your face will be fitted with bandages and surgical drains in order to speed recovery and reduce swelling.  The bandages and drains are removed on the first postoperative visit.  You may have tapes on the forehead to help reduce swelling.  We recommend head of bed elevation and light activity in the immediate postoperative period.  Patients generally report little pain with Browlift surgery, but may have some mild pain that is easily controlled with oral pain medication.  You will have frequent postoperative visits with Dr. Marotta to monitor your progress and remove the stitches.  Recovery is usually about a week with Browlift alone, but largely depends upon what other procedures have been performed.
