Your Ideal Chemical Peel in Long Island

Achieve a deep glow with a chemical peel at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists

Chemical peels cause controlled damage to treated skin to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. Depending on the depth and strength of the peel, you can achieve brighter, smoother, healthier skin overall with a single treatment, or tailor your chemical peel to target a specific concern. Chemical peel treatment involves the topical application of an acidic solution to the skin. The affected layers of skin are then replaced with fresh, new skin that is tonally and texturally more attractive. The facial experts at Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists offer patients precise and effective chemical peel treatment in Long Island, so you can achieve your best glow.

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peeling involves the application of a chemical exfoliant (acid or base) to remove layers of damaged skin.

Chemical peels are graded (very superficial to deep) depending on the depth of penetration and the layer of skin that is removed with a peel. Depending on the amount and depth of photodamage, real improvement in sun spots, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation may require different depths of chemical peels. Dr. Marotta performs Medium (Jessner 35% TCA) to Deep (Bakers Phenol) Chemical Peels.

What can be treated with a Medium to Deep Chemical Peel?

Reduction of fine to deep wrinkles – e.g. Crow’s feet, lipstick lines

Hyperpigmentation

Acne scars

Oily skin

Sun damaged skin and age spots on the face, hands, shoulders/back, chest, and neck

Medium To Deep Chemical Peel Procedure

Medium depth chemical peels are performed using Jessners 35% TCA solution. They may be performed under local anesthesia in-office or in the operating room under sedation.

The agent is applied to the face evenly, and the depth of penetration carefully monitored. Deep chemical peels are mixed by Dr. Marotta using phenol and other ingredients in various concentrations to make Hetter’s Peel or Baker’s Phenol solutions. These peels are performed under IV sedation and monitoring. Deep chemical peels are only appropriate for select patients.

Medium to Deep Chemical Peel Recovery

Long Island chemical peel patients should note that their skin may appear red and swollen immediately following the procedure. The swelling is more pronounced with a deep chemical peel.

The skin will turn brown over 48 hours and slough over the next 7-10 days. Make-up and sunscreen/moisturizer can then be used. The underlying skin will appear pinker and healthier. This pink appearance completely fades in 2-3 weeks and can easily be covered with make-up. Continued improvement from these chemical peels can be seen even up to a year following the procedure. A medium depth peel can be repeated every six months to one year. A deep chemical peel can only be done once.

Am I a candidate for a chemical peel?

Patients with a naturally dark skin tone may not be candidates due to a higher risk of pigmentation issues.

Due to the ability of chemical peels to penetrate deep within the skin and effect significant change, Dr. Marotta is thorough in his assessment of potential chemical peel candidates. In addition to certain skin conditions and medications that may prevent some patients from undergoing chemical peel treatment safely, candidates should not have a history of issues with scarring, including pigmented scarring. During your consultation for a chemical peel Long Island skin treatment expert Dr. Marotta, will examine your skin while considering all other necessary factors before determining your candidacy for a chemical peel treatment. Once he is confident that you are a good candidate, he will create your custom chemical peel treatment plan.
