Every Facelift, Just Like Every Face, Is Unique

In 2019, more than 123,000 facelifts were performed. But every facelift, just like every face, is unique, so it should come as no surprise that there are many different variations of facelifts that can be performed.

Each variation has its advantages, but, ultimately, the approach you will need will depend on your unique conditions and aesthetic goals. Regardless of those factors, a facelift of any kind (especially a deep plane mini-lift) is a great way to combat aging signs and restore a youthful appearance. If you would like to schedule an appointment with one of our medical professionals to see how a deep plane mini-lift can help you, give our office a call at (631) 982-2022.

How Is a Deep Plane Mini Facelift Different?

A “mini-lift” is also known as a “limited incision lift,” which means that the incisions used throughout the procedure are smaller than those in a regular facelift.

“Deep plane” refers to the amount of tissue that is dissected during the facelift procedure. In a deep plane lift, more tissue is removed than a regular facelift to help better address skin ptosis in the neck.

What Can a Deep Plane Mini Facelift Do?

A deep plane mini facelift can address facial skin ptosis more so than any other treatment available. Compared to minimally invasive alternatives like facial fillers and dermabrasion, a surgical facelift of any variety can provide substantially more noticeable, extensive and permanent results. But the Deep Plane Mini Facelift was developed for a specific kind of patient: someone who has skin sagging in the jowls, deep nasolabial folds but does not have a significant amount of ptosis in the neck. This approach is beneficial because it offers the maximum amount of correction possible without the need for extensive scarring.

Am I a Candidate for a Deep Plane Mini Facelift?

If you are experiencing sagging throughout your lower face, but not your neck, and have deep folds around your mouth, then you are likely a candidate for a Deep Plane Mini Facelift. You should disclose any preexisting conditions or diagnoses to your surgeon so they can confirm that it will not add additional risk to your procedure.

Smokers and people who are overweight are at a higher risk of developing surgical complications. Ideal candidates also have achievable expectations regarding their results. We highly recommend browsing through our mini facelift before and after photos to get an idea of what results you can expect. If you have not performed your own research to understand what this procedure can achieve, then you are setting yourself up for feelings of regret and disappointment. Surgery has limitations, and the only way to avoid those feelings is to temper those expectations with a thorough understanding.

How Should I Prepare for Deep Plane Mini Facelift?

When you come to Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists for your initial consultation, you will meet with Dr. Marotta to discuss your concerns. After listening to your aesthetic goals, reviewing your medical history and conducting a physical examination of your face, Long Island deep plane mini facelift provider Dr. Marotta will work with you to create a custom treatment plan. Once your program is developed, he will provide you with a list of instructions to follow as you move closer to your surgery day.

The instructions can include changes to medication, direction to avoid certain drugs or supplements and a mandate to quit smoking. You should also plan to have a friend or loved one drive you to and from the surgery appointment. Since you will be having anesthesia, you cannot operate a vehicle after coming out of the Deep Plane Mini Facelift. It is also helpful to have that person with you during your first day or two of recovery and set up a recovery station with all the essentials you need to remain comfortable.

What Should I Expect From a Deep Plane Mini Facelift Procedure?

When you first arrive at the facility and are checked in, you will be called back into a room. Dr. Marotta may make a few markings on your face to use as guidance during the surgery, and eventually, you will be taken into the surgery room for anesthesia. Most patients are put under general anesthesia, but IV sedation is also available. The best option for you will be determined ahead of time by your surgeon and shared with you well before your procedure.

Once your anesthesia takes effect, your surgeon will begin with a small incision around both of your ears. The cuts are made in the hairline so they can be easily hidden, and with a Deep Plane Mini Facelift, the incision is so small it becomes virtually invisible within the hair. These cuts will then be used to remove excess skin and fat throughout the face. The tissue that remains is then pulled taut and redraped over your face. The incisions are then sutured together using dissolvable stitches, and you are sent to a different room to begin recovery.

What Should I Expect During Deep Plane Mini Facelift Recovery?

Immediately after their deep plane mini facelift Long Island patients may feel minor pain, discomfort or swelling. It is usual for these side effects to persist and even worsen as the anesthesia continues to wear off.

Dr. Marotta can provide you with over-the-counter or prescription medication to alleviate any lingering pain or discomfort over the next few weeks. During the first week, swelling, bruising, pain, discomfort and soreness are all normal. These should begin to subside after a week or two. By week three, most patients can resume their normal activities. However, you should refrain from performing any strenuous activities or exercise until officially cleared by your doctor. Otherwise, you risk damaging your recovery and results.
